Where We Fish

Fishing Guide in Sanibel

Sanibel is famous for its shells, but the fishing around the causeway and the sound side is excellent, and the wildlife refuge adds something special to the experience.

On the Water

Fishing Sanibel

Sanibel is unique because it's an island known more for its wildlife and beaches than its fishing, but the fishing here is genuinely good. The Sanibel Causeway is probably the most famous spot, with good snook and redfish around the pilings and the deep water adjacent to the bridge. The sound side of the island has some productive grass flats, though they're not as extensive as the Pine Island Sound areas. What I like about fishing Sanibel is the combination. We can fish the causeway area, work some of the sound-side flats, and if conditions allow, run out to the Gulf side for some offshore work. The causeway is particularly good in the winter months when snook congregate around the structure. Summer brings good tarpon action in the deeper water near the causeway. The island itself is laid back, and the fishing has a different feel than the more production-oriented areas. It's a nice change of pace, and the wildlife you see while fishing adds to the experience.

What Anglers Say

I had a great time yesterday on the water with Capt. Stu. He took me on an all day trip and did not disappoint. Got me my first redfish and tarpon which we leadered to the boat and he shoot back off under the boat and broke us off. To top it off that got me my first inshore grand slam which was an awesome experience! I will definitely be booking again with Capt. Stu

Fishing Sanibel FAQ

What's the best spot on Sanibel for fishing?
The causeway area is the most consistent, with good structure and deep water. The sound-side flats are productive too, though they're smaller than what we find on Pine Island.
Can we fish the Gulf side of Sanibel?
Yes, when conditions allow we can run out to the Gulf for some offshore fishing. This works best in calmer weather and is a nice addition to a full day trip.
Is Sanibel crowded on the water?
It varies. The causeway area can get busy on weekends, but the sound-side flats are generally less pressured than some other areas in the region.
